Memorias Del Viento rehearsal video

Ma Cong's "Memories of the Wind" was inspired by a Portuguese painting of a woman standing on a hill overlooking the ocean, a woman waiting for her lover/fisherman to come home from the sea.

The work is earthy and lyrical so we decided to reference the past both in cut and in a painterly treatment to the fabrics.

Costuming is always a collaborative process. Aside from the design aspects, the success of a production relies on the liaise between the designer, cutter, patternmer and stitchers. I was very grateful to have April Mc Coy's expertise in patterning the dresses and the menswear, as well as Zoe Karimbakas's superlative sewing skills. © Photography by Rosalie O'Connor

In the dyeing process, I wanted to reference the earthy natural colors of the Mediterranean landscape and of the natural dyes found in the plants and shelfish. © Photography by Rosalie O'Connor
